Y’all, I have written and re-written this review so many times now, I never feel like it’s good enough to really captivate how much I appreciate this book. I’ve listened to the audiobook, downloaded all the references, and now I have a hard copy which I highly recommend because Lauren did an absolutely BEAUTIFUL job on the graphics. But, that’s not what I’m here for today.
I’m here to tell you that The Financial Diet is not just about money. It’s about adulting. It’s about how to be, and how to FEEL like a productive member of society. It’s about learning how to take care of yourself and how to be confident in your decision making.
Chelsea Fagan, the author and narrator of this book, tells all about how she went from an absolute hot mess in her late teens and early twenties through her journey in her mid and late twenties of getting a handle on her money. She also consults other experts on various subjects and compiles amazing advice (and beautiful charts and graphics).
Her introduction, titled How to Give A Sh*t about Money, is about what life is really like for most of us, especially when we’ve been taught that talking about money is rude, or even not allowed. As a millennial woman in NYC, she really empathizes with the 20s and 30s crowd who are trying to get by with stagnated wages, massive tuition debt, skyrocketing healthcare costs, and an endless “seller’s” housing market. But there’s hope! There’s so much that a person can do to improve their situation just by really understanding what resources are out there, and what is a worthy investment, vs what is not.
The main chapters of this book are Budget, Investing, Career, Food, Home, Love, and Action. Throughout each she consults experts, provides references and resources, and tons of tips and tricks. My favorite is the food section, where she details her plan for being a successful home cook in 10 recipes or less. All 10 recipes are provided and illustrated, of course.
All I can say is, if you struggle to give a sh*t about money, this is the book for you. It’s a great read, and I guarantee you’ll find at least one awesome tip you can apply to your life immediately and start living better.
This will take you to the current link on Amazon if you’d like to purchase the book. If you choose to purchase through this link, I will get a small affiliate commission, which would be dope! It won’t add any additional cost for you, but it would help FSE keep providing awesome information and education to all you lovely people! Enjoy!
